A visit to a Hospital

Aajkal zara beemariyon ka kuch zor dikhlai padhta hai, jidhar dekho, koi na koi behaal hai, ya shayad hamare dekhne ka nazariya kuch bemisaal hai, khair tukbandi karne se behter hai ki kari jaye kaam ki baat, aur sunayein kissa us aspatal ka, jahan le chale hamare dost humein falani raat.

To baat kuch aisi hai, ki dilli ki sardi mein auditorium mein chalaye baithe thhe AC, kyunki bhai aye thhe wahan khas mehmaan. yun to humein aaj tak samajh nahin aya, ki mehmannawazi ek AC jaisi commodity par itna kyun nirbhar hoti hai, par theek hai, ab jo hai so hai. To AC ke attack se utha aisa dard ke roke nahin rukta, aur ab na to baitha jaye na khade hone ki himmat. kafi soch vichar ke baad wapas apne hostel jakar sona hi sahi upaye nazar aya.

hot bottle (mujhe inse sakht nafrat hai, kya ajeeb si cheez hain yeh) lagane par bhi koi araam nahin mila aur akhirkaar mere do khaas dost mujhe hospital le jane ke irade se pahunch gaye. yun to mujhe yeh befazul ka kharcha lagta hai, kyunki jab apne bade doctory kar baithe hon to doosron ke paas kya jana, par us raat dard kuch aisa utha, ki maine apni jidd chhod doston ka kehna man liya.

Hum pahunche, STONELAND Hospital (naam yun to badal diya hai, par asal naam bhi kuch kam nahin ) , kafi khoobsurat building thhi unki, aap us jagah pe roka, birthday, kitty party ityadi chhote mote functions kar sakte hain. Koi ul jalool conference bhi rakhi ja sakti hai. interior photography ka assignment karne bhi jaya ja sakta hai, overall ek typical wannabe (modern!) building, jismein wahi behoode tinted glasses aur bahut sari lightein lagi hon, jiska uske aaspaas ke nazare se dur dur tak koi lena dena na ho. jo bas apne aap mein ek sarv sampann building ho, jo ekdum se jangli phool ki tarah ug ayi ho.

khair mujhe mere dost (ja kafi chintit thhe) EMERGENCY ward mein le gaye, jahan humne kareeban 20-25 minute intezaar kiya, ek muskurati kuch bhi na samajhne wali nurse ke sath time pass kiya aur kafi shorgul bhi kara. Jab tak doctor aya, tab tak mera dard kafi sambhal chuka thha, doston ke sath man bhi halka ho utha thha aur hospital par koi bharosa na thha. usne ek do sawal kare aur khoobsurti se painkiller, b complex aur antacid likh kar de diye.

Maine dawaiyan khareedne se mana kar diya, aisa stock mere paas hamesha hi rehta hai. agar aapke mata pita bhi doctors hon, to aapne shayad toffiyon se jyada goliyan khayi hon. ek baar to aisa bhi hua, ki meri ek batchmate ki manpasand dawai (flexon)meri bhi pasandida nikli, aji us din se mujhe unki akalmandi aur pasand par naaz hai. maloom padha unke bhi pita doctor hain.

khair wapas nikalne se pehle billing honi thhi, jismein karreeban aadha ghanta laga, teen nihayati dheeme log, ek mahila wa do yuvak jo mujhe kisi typical babuism pe bani documentary ke kirdaar nazar a rahe thhe, pata nahin kis duniya mein bill bana rahe thhe. 500 rs. de kar, hum chup chaap chalte bane.

ab sawaal ye uthta hai, ki healthcare ke naam par aisi peshkash jab aapke samne aye, to aap kaya kareinge?

An ode to Design: Stamped

Stamped: Concept Note

What I understand of Stamps is that they are fragments of the narrative of a particular time period, of a particular context (social, political, religious, and cultural).

So either I could make stamps out of a narrative or a narrative out of stamps, stamps of artworks or an artwork of stamps. I felt that the sheet let in which stamps are generally available is quite symbolic of this aspect especially the souvenir sheets, where the stamp or stamps are a part of the entire visual narrative. This helped me finalize on the particular method of representation where the Stamps (visually) emerge out of a wider context.

Next, I had to choose the context as to what would be my visual content. I thought that being a designer I felt despair at two levels:

1. There are no postage stamps dedicated to design

2. Professionally dedicated Designers, Design Students, Design schools are not involved in the process or encouraged for doing so.

Therefore I decided to keep Design and that too Design in everyday life as my concept because at times we take some great inventions simply for granted. However I am no authority on calling some design great over another and universalize it. Taking a little liberty since it is my personal expression after understanding Postage Stamps, I thought that I would represent some of the remarkable inventions I used that day.
